Building trust for eighty years
1920s Auto dealer Les Kelley begins circulating a list of cars he is interested in buying and the prices he is willing to pay.
1926 Banks and other dealers have now become so dependent on Kelley's values that he decides to begin publishing them in book form. The Blue Book® of Automotive Values is born.
1930s More and more dealers subscribe to the Blue Book. Les Kelley's Kelley Kar Company becomes the largest used car dealership in the world.
1940s During WWII, the government uses Blue Book values to set price ceilings on used cars.
1950s After becoming both the largest Ford Dealership and the largest used car dealership in the world, the Kelley Kar Company is sold to devote full time to Kelley Blue Book®.
1960s & 1970s RVs, ATVs, snowmobiles, travel trailers, motorcycles and more are now covered. New car pricing added, beginning with 1966 model year.
1980s We develop PC software for dealers and others, to provide vehicle values via computers.
1992 Auto dealers start using Blue Book Window Stickers on retail used cars. Nearly 3 million stickers are produced annually.
1995 Kelley Blue Book launches kbb.com to help speed the auto buying process by creating more informed buyers and sellers.
1997 kbb.com becomes the most visited automotive site on the web.
2006 Kelley Blue Book celebrates its 80th Anniversary and it continues as the most visited automotive Web site for the eight year in a row.
Today More than half of all new and used car buyers who use the Internet come to kbb.com, creating exciting new business opportunities for the auto industry.
And thanks to eighty years of accurate reporting, Kelley Blue Book is the most recognized, most trusted source of new and used vehicle information.
